Favourite Books
Just a quick post as i've been tagged by http://realsuburbanmummy.com/ to post about our favourite books.
Our favouritest book of the moment is Monkey Puzzle.
It's hilarious. You can read my full review of it HERE
For Lovers of Aliens/Dinosaurs love underpants this is a really cool christmas version.
We really love the underpants books and now Ozzy is getting the hang of christmas and Santa he's loving this book. (PS, Pirates love Underpants is out soon!)
And finally, we also love this book:
We watch Octonauts before school 3days a week and we also met Captain Barnacles in our local Waterstones a few weeks ago. It's becoming hugely popular and i'm sure i'll be buying a few more of the Octonauts books in the near future.
Ta da!
Those are our favourites of the moment!!

My 'Big Sis'
Several weeks ago I signed up to Britmums Big Sis Mentoring Programme to be a lilttle sis, because lets face it-Im a bit noobish at blogging.
I didn't know how to do the majority of things from how to add HTML to my page, to ideas for material. I was in need of some help desperately.
I was a follower of Britmums on their facebook page and saw a status for a mentoring programme to help such noobs as myself. I emailed right away and was given a lovely 'Big Sis'.
Kate Sutton is the brains behind the lifestyle blog at http://witwitwoo.com/ which means she'll gab about just about anything. :)
I think it's the fact that she's so beautifully bonkers that makes her website so darn cool. Kate is also a recent English graduate so she knows what she's talking about and gave me a ton of excellent hints and tips for my blog and how to update it and how to get more in touch with the blogging world. She's an absolute wealth of information and you can catch her posting up all over the internet. I think she's aiming for world domination.
Yes, I know what you're thinking where's the evidence of these hints and tips?! Well, I wont be blogging a whole lot until after new year because work has got me running about like a donkey on acid so anything I do write until after then will be slightly rushed.
However I have taken a very good bit of advice and put it to use already by taking a notepad with me wherever I go. (well I manage to take a book with me wherever I go, so whats an extra lil notepad) And I have been writing down a ton of ideas. (most of them barmy). So, I'm beginning to get the hang of the blog lark now and will hopefully be getting this show properly on the road!

You Me And The Breast
'You Me And The Breast' Is written by Monica Calaf and illustrations by Mikel Fuentes.
Upon receiving this book I thought it would probably be a lovely little story about how nice it is to breastfeed babies and tell you all about the benefits of a breastfed child. And that it is.
It tells how mummy breastfed wherever she was and how it comforted her child and how it made them feel close.
I did breastfeed my son, but only for about a week. He was a hungry hungry child and I just couldn't keep up. I also had little help with how to breastfeed and I ended up with very sore boobies. I wish I could have breastfed longer as I do think 'Breast Is Best'.
Now, as lovely as the premise for this book is, I don't understand it. I don't know what kind of age group this book is aimed at as it's a little bit creepy! I don't think my 3 yr old would quite appreciate me telling him all about mummys boobies because he doesn't understand that milk comes out.
Not just that but I also think the illustrations are very poor. The front page is of what looks like an older boy poking his mothers breats and the way half their face is a different colour kinda freaks me a bit too :s
And then upon opening the book you're greeted with a giant nipple. Where's the decorum in that?! I thought perhaps they might have covered the mum up a bit because what child actually wants to see that? Maybe if the illustrations hadn't been soweird quirky then it might have looked a lot better.
I also found the font quite annoying to read. the curly joined up writing is cute yes, but unnecessary. I had to look twice at a few of the words to try and make out what they mean.
So, although I do like the idea of this story, the way that it's been done just gives me the heebies. If they had used a different illustrator and font I might be giving this a better review because the actual story itself is adorable.
I also didn't read this book to Oscar as I found it a tad inappropriate for a 3 yr old child who doesn't quite understand what boobs are for. And for now, he doesn't need to know.
I received no financial reward for this review, however we did receive the book for review purposes. This is my honest opinion. please see Disclosure tab for more info

Gruff's Guide to Fairy Tale Land
Gruff's Guide to Fairy Tale Land is written by Amy Sparkes, a mother of 3, who quit her job in the NHS to write full time. Her other work includes Hodge The Hedgehog.
Gruff's guide made me laugh on every page from what not to eat, where not to stay (Miss Widge's cottage B&B is a no-no. dont be lured in by her house made of sweets!!) and how to avoid trolls and vain princes.
There's also a cute little pull out map at the back of the book of Fairy Tale Land and a glossary that was nice little extras.
It was quite intresting for me to read, however Oscar only really enjoyed the pictures because, well it's not really a story! And at the moment he just likes and understands the story. It's definitely a book for an older child (about 5-10 years Id guess) because it is cute and fun to read but for the young'uns, I just don't see Ozzy getting into it.
The illustrations by Benji Davies are amusing too with lots of funny diagrams.
I think this would be a fab stocking filler for an older child who loves classic stories and Disney movies but one that will probably be on the shelf for a couple more years in our house.

We LOVE Underpants!

Both 'Aliens Love Underpants' and 'Dinosaurs Love Underpants' are written by Claire Freedman. Her books aren't all that popular in our household, but there is a lot to compete with here!
Aliens love underpants is much funnier in my opinion. The dinosaur one just seems more ridiculous with dinosaurs fighting over underpants until they're extinct and the dinosaurs names are just too hard to get your tongue around! They should have been called something a lot simpler.
The illustrations are my favourite, particularly in Aliens. They have bright, bold colours and are quite hilarious to boot.
The story rhymes, though it doesn't flow as easily as other rhyming stories. I found myself out of rhythm a few times!
But of course pants are hilarious so I think any child would find the book fun to read despite what us boring adults think. Not one i'd pick but both the 'pants' books and fairly well worn nonetheless.

Whoops a Daisy!
Unfortunately for my son, I think he has inherited my clumsy gene.
I'm forever tripping over things or into things or off things and that was even before I had Ozzy and my house became a messy toy store.
I have broken my nose twice and my arm twice, and not once was it in a cool way.
The first time I broke my arm, I was 2. I was living on the 3rd floor in a block of flats and had walked down the endless flight of stairs to get to the last TWO steps, and I trip over myself and down I go.
The second time I broke my arm, I think I was about 10 or so. I had just gotten out of the shower and was wrapped in a bath towel far too big for me. I had a few shelves that my dad had put up above my bed, which meant that everytime I wanted to put on my stereo, I had to stand on my bed to turn it on. So, of course in my oversized towel, I stand up, turn my stereo on, go to sit back down but instead trip on the towel, fall backwards and break my arm on the bedside table.
And of course the breaking of my nose...the first time was from skate-boarding down a slide into a metal gate and the second time was from roller-blading in the kitchen. I was quite the tomboy back then. But these were just the worse cases of my clumsiness. Ask me on any random day if I have any bruises and I could point you out several just from accidentally knocking into the cabinets or banging my hip on the door handle (dear god that annoys me, they're perfect height to get my bloomin lovehandles!).
It seems at only 3, Ozzy is just as clumsy as me. Maybe more so!
A few weeks ago he was sat on my lap, I lean sideways slightly to welcome daddy home with a kiss and he loses his balance, slips off my lap and smacks his face into the coffee table.
The fact that my poor boy has a black eye is already pretty horrendous, but now I have to take him to pre-school 3 days a week and have to explain his injuries!
Today's one was on the way to school. He was running down the road and I start to shout out to him to slow down or he'll fa....no too late. his head got smacked on the gritty pavement.
Another injury to have to explain to school, the second one in as many months. Here's hoping we have an accident free month next month or they're going to start getting suspicious.
Anyone else in the world have an accident prone child!!?
